Why can’t I cancel my YouTube TV subscription?

Okay, what the heck is going on? I’ve been trying to cancel YouTube TV for THREE DAYS and this is honestly ridiculous. Every time I go through the steps, something stupid happens. Either the cancel button straight up disappears, it kicks me back to the homepage, or worst of all – it acts like it went through but then I get charged AGAIN next month.
Here’s the nightmare I’ve been dealing with:

1. The Ghosting Cancel Button

I follow the instructions perfectly:

  • Go to Settings > Membership

  • Click “Cancel Membership”
But half the time, the button is literally GRAYED OUT. Like, cool, thanks YouTube TV – you’re gonna lock me into paying $83/month forever? Even my gym membership was easier to quit!

2. The Fake Cancellation

One time, it seemed like it worked – got a confirmation screen and everything. Then BAM, next month’s charge hits my card. Turns out, if you subscribed through Apple or Roku, you have to cancel through them instead. Why doesn’t YouTube TV warn you about this?!

3. The “Oops, Try Again Later” Runaround

Sometimes, after clicking cancel, I get this garbage error:
“Unable to process your request. Try again later.”
Later? LATER? I’ve been trying for days! Is their system just broken, or is this some shady tactic to make it impossible to leave?

4. The DVR Hostage Situation

The worst part? I’ve got like 200 recordings saved – my kid’s favorite shows, every game from football season, you name it. If I cancel YouTube TV, do I lose ALL of them immediately? The help articles contradict each other – some say 21 days, some say it’s gone instantly. I’m not risking it until I know for sure.

5. The Customer Service Black Hole

You’d think for $83/month they’d have a phone number, right? NOPE. The “contact us” page just loops me back to the same useless FAQs. Live chat? I waited 53 minutes yesterday just for the agent to send me a link to… you guessed it… the cancellation page THAT DOESN’T WORK.

Why This Feels Intentional

Let’s be real – this isn’t some accident. They make it impossible to cancel YouTube TV because:

  • $$$ – Forced renewals = more money

  • They know most people will give up after a few failed attempts

  • No accountability – No phone number means no angry customers yelling at them

What Finally Worked (For Me, Anyway)

After wasting HOURS, here’s how I got out:

  1. Used a desktop browser (mobile was glitchy as hell)

  2. Logged in directly at tv.youtube.com (not through Apple/Roku)

  3. Turned off ALL VPNs (this was blocking the cancel button)

  4. Took screenshots of the confirmation in case they “forgot”

Still took FOUR TRIES. Unacceptable.
