1. Chidiya Tapu/ Munda Pahad Trail
The most popular trekking trail in Andaman is Chidiya Tapu trail. The Chidya Tapu beach is also a place for birdwatching, hiking and fishing. Surrounded by the sea from three sides and marshy land on the other—the trail offers a vibrant ecosystem to different birds and reptiles. The difficulty level of Chidiya Tapu or the Munda Pahad trail is easy to moderately challenging. The trail is open in all seasons for hikers and trekkers or anyone who wants to spend time in nature. Most trekkers easily complete the trail in an estimated time of 45 minutes to an hour. The trek begins from Chidiya Tapu Beach, near Chidiya Tapu Biological Park.
Timings: The trail is open between 10 AM to 5 PM.
Distance: The estimated back and forth distance to complete the trail is 3.5 kilometers.
2. Mount Harriet to Madhuban Beach Trail
Start your trek from the top of Mount Harriet and finish it with the pleasant view of Madhuban beach. Remember this trail is slightly challenging due to rocky terrain and dense vegetation. The estimated distance to convert this Mount Harriet to Madhuban Beach trek is around 16 kilometers. On this trek, keep your camera or binoculars ready as you will spot some gorgeous flowers, plants, birds and some reptiles. Walking in the woods and breathing in fresh air will recharge you with vitality. Those trekking for the first time should trek here under the supervision of expert trekkers or a tour guide. The most suitable time to trek from Mount Harriet National Park to Madhuban beach is from October to February.
3. Bartang to Limestone Caves Trail
The main attractions of Bartang islands are mud volcanoes, limestone caves and mangrove creeks. Out of the aforementioned attractions, limestone caves can be easily explored by going on a trek. Bartang to Limestone Caves is the easiest trek to try in the Andaman Islands due to a levelled pathway. So, if you are a beginner, now you know exactly which trek to add in your Andaman travel itinerary.
However, despite it being an easy trek, taking a tour guide along with you is necessary. You need professional guidance to navigate the way to reach the cluster of 41 limestone caves. The trek from Bartang to Limestone Caves is approximately 1.2 kilometers long. It is covered with trees, a variety of plants and you will spot beautiful birds on your way. You will also get to see beautiful mangroves before finally reaching the caves. Bartang to Limestone Caves trail is open in all seasons and time taken to complete the trek is between 30 minutes to 45 minutes.
Best time for trekking: Except the monsoon season, any time of the year is suitable for trekking.
4. Saddle Peak Trail, Near Diglipur
Event wanted to trek in the thick woodlands and witness the bounties of nature up and close? If yes, head to the Saddle peak trail which is regarded as one of the best trekking trails in Andaman Islands. However, it is also the most challenging one too! The out-and-back distance from this trail is around 18.3 kilometers. Since Saddle Peak National Park is a protected area, you have to hire a guide and complete your trek with their guidance.
On Saddle Peak trail, you will witness rare and endangered species of flora and fauna, all of which are highly protected. Trek along the eastern boundary of the National Park and you will see a long and rocky beach on the side. The park entry to the Saddle National Park is 6 AM to 4:30 PM. The entry fee to the park is INR 25 for Indian Nationals and INR 250 for foreigners. The charges for still camera fee is INR 10 and video camera is INR 25.
5. Havelock to Elephant Beach Trail
Who doesn’t want to go to the Elephant beach when visiting Havelock Island? Elephant beach is the place where multiple water sports like snorkeling, swimming and parasailing take place. Many people take a boat to reach Elephant beach. Those who want to trek must cross the marshy mangrove forest in order to reach the Elephant beach. Although the Havelock to Elephant Beach trail is fairly simple to trek. If you are a beginner, it is recommended to hire a trekking guide.
The estimated distance of the Havelock to Elephant Beach Trail is 1.5 kilometers. It will take an average of 35 to 45 minutes to complete the trek. The time to complete the trek may also vary based on your walking speed and stoppages. The starting point of the trek is located just 2 kilometres from Radhanagar Beach Road. Once you trek all the way to Elephant beach, take you time to relax and unwind. And if you have energy left, try out some water sports as well.
6. Rose Island or Little Neil Island Trail
Rose Island is a beautiful uninhabited island of the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago. You will see free roaming animals on this island like deer, rabbits and more. You will find different hiking trails on this island, ranging from easy to moderate to rugged. Out of all the trails, Trail 5 is accessible in the camp ground near site 17. The end of the trail is a platform which gives an overlooking view of Fourteenmile Creek. TheTrail 5 just approximately stretches up to 2 kilometres. Rose Island Loop is an effortless trek on Rose Island which can be easily done in 30 to 40 minutes. Make sure to visit this island with a tour guide.
