How Smart Window FilmWorks
Smart Window Film works using a technology called polymer dispersed liquid crystals (PDLC). Thin polymer films embedded with liquid crystal droplets are laminated between two transparent, flexible plastic layers. When no electrical current is applied, the random orientation of the liquid crystals allows light to pass through the film similarly to ordinary window glass. However, when a small electrical charge is applied, the liquid crystals align to block sunlight and heat from penetrating the window. This ability to modulate light transmission makes Smart Window Film highly effective for regulating indoor temperatures passively.
