Our flight landed at Terminal C in the evening, and after collecting our luggage, my father-in-law was eager to have a smoke before the drive home. Again, the signage was excellent, leading us quickly to a designated outdoor smoking spot near the arrivals area.
The second Newark Airport we encountered was just as clean and well-organized as the first. It was clear that the airport regularly maintains these spaces. Despite it being a busy Friday evening, the area was not overcrowded. It was a huge relief to have a tidy, dedicated spot where my father-in-law could smoke without feeling rushed or judged. Meanwhile, my husband and I got the kids settled and organized for the drive home. Having that calm moment, facilitated by an accessible smoking area, was invaluable for us after a tiring trip.
I must also praise the staff we interacted with at Newark. When we had questions about directions to the nearest smoking area, the airport employees were courteous and knowledgeable. They provided clear instructions and treated us kindly. Good service always enhances travel experiences, and Newark Liberty International Airport certainly delivered.
Another thoughtful detail we noticed was how weather-conscious the smoking areas were. Though they are outdoors, some parts had coverings or were located in areas shielded from wind and rain. This meant that even if the weather was less than ideal, smokers could still find a relatively comfortable spot to take a break. This extra level of consideration made Newark Airport stand out even more.
From a family perspective, what impressed me the most was how Newark Airport managed to provide for everyone without compromising the overall passenger experience. Smokers had their space, non-smokers weren’t bothered, and families like ours could move through the airport without additional stress. The cleanliness, accessibility, and convenience of Newark Airport truly made our travel day easier.
Reflecting on our trip, I realize that it’s often the small things that leave a lasting impression. While many travelers focus on big-ticket items like security lines, food options, and flight punctuality, amenities like a well-maintained smoking area show that an airport cares about details and details matter, especially when traveling with a group.
