Explore 10 Off-Beat Destinations in Bengal

Planning a weekend trip in Bengal? The first two names that immediately come to mind are Darjeeling and Digha. From my personal experience, I can tell you these two places are overcrowded. So, if you want a peaceful holiday far away from the cacophonic crowd, think beyond popular tourist spots.

In this article, I will name 10 wonderful off-beat destinations in Bengal. They are calm and quaint, making an ideal spot for a wonderful, secluded trip. Some of them are gems of natural panorama while others will leave you speechless with their architectural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Furthermore, they make a perfect choice for an affordable weekend trip.

If possible, you can stretch your holiday to a week. Believe me, you won’t get bored!

Mousuni Island

A little away from Namkhana, Mousuni Island has recently gained popularity among travel enthusiasts in Kolkata. Devastated by super cyclones Ayla, Umphan and Yash within a span of 6 years, this island has found its way back to the normal rhythm every time, exemplifying how “A man can be destroyed but not defeated”. When in this island, you have plenty of things to do.

The serene beach looks surreal in the afternoon glow of the setting sun. Take a stroll across the beach; leave your footprints on the sands for others to discover that someday, an unknown soul made a visit to this island. A boat ride with friends and family is the most thrilling way to explore the water canvas. Stay in a sea-facing tent or eco-cottage to watch the rising or setting sun painting the blue canopy with shades of yellow, red and orange.

The enchanting village will keep you engrossed while the simplicity of the tribal people will touch your heart. They have their own culture and you cannot help but admire it. These people are amicable and hospitable.

It is better to visit the place on Saturday so that you can drop in the local market and buy hand-made products from the local villagers.

Once you visit Lepchajagat, a wonderful world of scenic beauty unfolds itself in front of your crazy eyes. Still a virgin beauty, the place does not experience crowds of visitors.
