Electric Control Panel1

An electric control panel, also known as an electrical control panel, is a cabinet where electrical or electronic automate, control, and monitor industrial processes. Control panels are used in almost every industry for machines and processes that require human intervention or monitoring. The panel houses switches for controlling equipment, circuit breakers for disconnecting circuits, meters for monitoring voltage, current, power, etc. and indicators to show running status. All wiring for power and controls is routed through the panel to interface between the field devices and the control system.

Types of Control Panels

There are different types of Electric Control Panel based on their application and enclosure construction. Some common types are:

Production Line Control Panel: Used in factories for automation of production lines. They control operations like sorting, inspecting, packaging etc.

Machine Control Panel: Mounted on or near large machines in industries to operate and monitor them. Examples include CNC machine control panels, injection molding machine panels etc.

Process Control Panel: Used in processes that require monitoring and control of parameters like temperature, pressure, flow etc. Examples include PLC control panels in chemical plants, boilers etc.

Motor Control Center: Housed in large enclosure for controlling and protection of multiple motors in large facilities. Contains motor starters, overload relays, disconnect switches etc.

Distribution Control Panels: Used for switching, protection and monitoring of electrical distribution systems. Examples are switchgear control panels, bus duct panels etc.
