Home Renovation Hacks: Save Time and Money

Costs are becoming increasingly high and it’s preventing people from being able to afford the bare minimum. With this, it’s much harder to foster change within your environment and with it being where we spend most of our human lives, it’s becoming increasingly important to live in an environment that fosters joy.

Some home renovations can be due to personal preference or a necessity, so no matter if you are either or you should have the knowledge on how to cut costs instead of corners, we have put together a list of home renovation hacks that don’t break the bank.

Interior Designer or Contractor?

Choosing between hiring a contractor or an interior designer (ID) is crucial for optimising your budget. Even though you might save money by using an ID firm, you will have to spend a lot more time finding, choosing, briefing, and monitoring your contractors. It’s important to think about projects and ways you can save money and both. If you think you can do certain things, make sure you aren’t paying for it.

Cost Saving Design Theme

Minimalism is an excellent illustration of how selecting an affordable theme may help you save money. In addition to being beautiful and clutter-free, a minimalist design is also less expensive than other design styles. Additionally, a minimalist motif can make the area appear larger, which is ideal in most places, especially in city centres where homes are getting smaller.

Scandinavian design, which uses clean lines and again aims for the appearance of space, is another fantastic low-cost motif. However, if you have a theme in mind, you will need to work with your contractor or interior designer to locate affordable options that complement your area. You can save on quantity but that doesn’t mean you have to spare on quality, try second-hand stores and vintage stores for some steals but also encourage homeware gifts

Increasing the Scope

As you may have observed, the toilet, new windows, and any other problems we could encounter along the way were not among my initial priorities. This is due to the fact that budget-conscious renovations always need tradeoffs. These initially appeared to be acceptable to put off until later, but as the rest of the establishment came together, the focus and money aspects could be built up and reinvested to handle the larger issues. I find that if it’s not detrimental to the living circumstances and is more of an inconvenience, it can definitely wait.

Quality VS Cost

The whole cost of furnishing and decorating the living room, hallway, and two bedrooms came to £11,430.16. As I indicated at the beginning, I intended to purchase a few essential items that would justify a higher-end rental price, even if this could have been done for much less.

The Oliver Furniture bunk bed was arguably the most expensive item at £2.7k, but I couldn’t help myself because it seemed like it was built for the room and the measurements were ideal.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to cutting costs on home renovations there are multiple ways to do it so just stick with what resonates with your goals and save where you can.
